The Grass

I laid on my back
the grass was softer then I thought it would be walking on it. It cushioned me and was warm with the lingering heat of the day that was almost done. I watched the sun, alight with it’s bunsen burner orange flame glow, set in the sky. the fireworks began but my thoughts turned to you. i felt the way the grass tickled my heels and the way that grass imprinted my arm from laying on it. i couldn’t not think of you. about how i wanted you to be lying next to me. i wanted the ground to transfer the electricity pulsing through my body to you. to tease you without lifting a finger to touch you. to smell you as you mixed w/ the earth. to hear your voice in my ear as we whispered back and forth about our going on’s for the day.
